Tiny Dragons is a class designed for young children, ages 3½ (42 mos.) through age 6.
The guide star for this program is for these young students to have fun. By making their learning process
exciting and playful, the more serious aspects of learning martial arts can slowly be integrated into their
routines without the heightened levels of discipline and traditional protocols found in the regular youth
classes. A proper mix of traditional martial arts training, enthusiasm, and play provide the children with
the opportunity to achieve success while having a great time!
There are a broad range of reasons parents bring their children to our program. Many of these are found in
the parent's desire to aide their children in the development of basic skill sets. These include such things
as ability to focus, listening and attention, respect and social behavior, physical and motor skills improvement,
and safety with an awareness of surroundings.
The martial skills taught in this class are designed especially for these young martial artists. Fundamental
stances, blocking, kicking, and striking are taught. Effective and time tested techniques used in the instruction
of these skills lower the risk that these skills will be used inappropriately (such as the school playground).
We spend frequent sessions talking about safety awareness without focusing on negatives or fear based motivation.
By teaching them how to protect themselves at a young age we also nurture their confidence levels to add a greater
ability to remain calm in the face of confrontation. By providing an environment where children are given the ability
to avoid conflict as a primary objective, we reduce their risk of being involved in violent situations.
It is our belief the program provides a unique and wonderful learning opportunity for each child. Every martial artist,
young or old, experiences the journey in their own unique way. In as much, we treat each student as an individual.
Expectations for these younger students are designed to provide them with appropriate and exciting challenges yet making
the feel safe and comfortable in trying to achieve their goals.
Generally, younger students will achieve levels slower than older students, as their learning, practice, and motor skills
are not as developed. This is also a built in governor which keeps children from promoting too fast and giving a false
sense of accomplishment. Advancement is assured by consistent attendance and effort.
Once a child has reached age 7 or achieved promotion to orange belt, they will be promoted into the regular youth class.
However, a child may enter the regular youth class as early as 5½ (66 mos). The promotion into the youth class is done
slowly, with clear and careful explanation of expectations and on an individual basis.
We believe you will find this program an exceptional opportunity for your child. Welcome to the magic of martial arts and Tiny Dragons!
